Wearing a Mets cap, Cohen was treated like a rock star. This was before Game 3 against the Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets won 7-2, leading the series 2-1.
Cohen bought the Mets for $2.4 billion in 2020. He spent big, but the team struggled in 2023. They traded away stars and had a disappointing season.
This year, the Mets’ payroll is $318 million, the highest in baseball. It’s finally paying off.
The team started slow but finished strong. They went 67-40 after May to make the playoffs. They could win the World Series for the first time since 2015.
Since late September, the Mets have thrilled fans. They played a doubleheader in Atlanta due to a hurricane. Then, they beat the Brewers in Milwaukee, thanks to Pete Alonso’s home run.
The season has been memorable. It included appearances by Grimace and a hit single by Jose Iglesias. Fans sing “OMG” as their theme song.
The Mets’ success comes after a disappointing 2023. Cohen spent big on Verlander and Scherzer but missed the playoffs. He has a net worth of $14.7 billion.

This year, the Mets could face the Dodgers or Padres next. Or they might go back to Philadelphia for Game 5 on Friday.
“There is nothing like playoff baseball,” Cohen said on X. “Fans, You can make the difference tomorrow. Be proud and most of all, be loud!”
